Hey there,It’s your trusty Hiking Boots here, all laced up and ready to kick off a season full of autumn adventures! With the leaves starting to change and the air getting that crisp, fall feeling, I’ve been dreaming of the trails we’re about to conquer together. So, how about we explore some of Nova Scotia’s best spots? I’ve got a few ideas that’ll make this fall unforgettable. Top Hiking Trails and Scenic Drives:Mica Hill: Picture us trekking through Cape Breton, where we’ll pass through Taiga, Boreal, and Acadian Forests. It’s like nature’s own colour wheel—absolutely stunning! (This will get you a jump start on the Moonstone Challenge and earn the Cape Breton Highlands Badge from Hike Nova Scotia.) Cabot Trail: While we are there, how about a drive along this iconic route? We’ll soak in the breathtaking views of changing leaves and rugged coastlines. And hey, don’t forget the Cobequid Mountains along the way—pure magic! Wentworth Ski-Lift: Speaking of the Cobequid Mountains, are you looking for a spot to soak in Nova Scotia’s fall colours? Let’s head to Wentworth! Picture this: a relaxing chairlift ride through a canopy of red and gold, followed by a scenic downhill walk through vibrant forests. If you’re up for some Oktoberfest fun, there’s beer, BBQ, and live music waiting for us too. Sound like a plan? Check out all the details here and let’s make it a fall to remember! Annapolis Valley North and South Mountains: These spots are perfect for leaf-peeping. Trust me, the panoramic views will take your breath away. Don’t forget to stop at the Blomidon Lookoff and you might want to catch the breathtaking views from the Jodrey Trail in Blomidon Provincial Park. Middleton Park: We could meander to Middleton while we are in the valley. Imagine an entire park filled with maple trees—talk about a stunning burst of autumn colours! Let’s make the Rotary Riverside Park one of our stops. Kejimkujik National Park: Heading from the valley towards the South Shore, let’s wander through Kejimkujik, where we’ll step into a world of ancient beauty. The 300-year-old hemlocks along the Hemlocks and Hardwoods Channel Lake trail are among Nova Scotia’s oldest trees. As we move deeper into the forest, notice how the air changes—cooler, darker, and a bit more mysterious under the thick-leafed canopy. The leaves around us are starting to change, adding a splash of autumn’s reds, oranges, and golds to the landscape. A hemlock boardwalk will guide us over the sensitive roots of these towering giants, making it a walk to remember. Courthouse Hill: If we end up near Halifax, we’ve got to stop at Courthouse Hill, one of the best views around. You won’t want to miss the fall scenery from up here where we can view 5 of Nova Scotia’s counties in one sweeping panoramic view. Plus, there is something historical here to discover. Festivals and Events to Enjoy:Louisbourg Lighthouse Centennial Celebrations (Sept 13-14): How about a trip to Louisbourg? We can take in the centennial celebrations at the lighthouse, enjoy live music, and even be part of a time capsule event. It’s a great way to mix history with some maritime fun. Let’s not miss out on this one! Hants County Exhibition (Sept 20-22): Let’s wrap up our fall tour at the Hants County Exhibition, the oldest agricultural fair in North America. We can check out the livestock, enjoy some local crafts, and indulge in some tasty treats. It’s a chance to be part of a tradition that’s been going strong for over 250 years. Let’s step into history together! Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival (Sept 27-Oct 14): Over 250 scarecrows are ready to greet us in Mahone Bay! This festival is all about fall fun, with a charming seaside vibe, an antique market, and delicious pies to savour. Let’s stroll through the streets, enjoy the creative displays, and maybe even pick up a few goodies along the way! Celtic Colours International Festival (October 6-14, 2024): Ready for some vibrant music and Cape Breton culture? Let’s soak it all in at this renowned festival. Imagine us tapping our toes to the rhythm of fiddles while exploring Cape Breton’s autumn landscapes. Sounds like a perfect adventure, right? Why This Matters:As summer winds down, it’s the perfect time to embrace the beauty of fall. The leaves are already starting to change—can you believe it? Peak foliage usually hits between mid-September and mid-October, so let’s plan a drive or hike every weekend to soak it all in. Trust me, you won’t regret it! Looking Ahead:Oh, and guess what?
